The trek typically starts from Padum, the main town in Zanskar Valley, and follows a trail through villages like Purni, Phugtal, and other remote locations. The journey is a mix of walking along riverbanks, crossing bridges, and climbing up steep ascents. The final destination, the Phugtal Monastery, is a spectacular sight as it is built into the side of a cliff.

ITINERARY(Phugtal Monastery Trek):
Duration : 2 Night / 3 Day Tour
Destinations Covered : Padum - Phugtal Monastery

Day 01 : Padum to Phugtal Monastery:

Distance: Approximately 20 km by road to Purne Village (3 hours of trekking) Route: Start early in Padum. This will be the longest and most challenging day of the trek as you’ll need to cover a substantial distance in one go. The trail passes through villages and follows the Zanskar River, and as you near Purni, the terrain becomes more rugged. After crossing the village of Purni, you'll continue climbing toward Phugtal Monastery.
Highlights: You'll experience the beautiful, rugged landscapes of the Zanskar Valley, including views of the river, rocky cliffs, and distant snow-capped peaks. As you approach Phugtal Monastery, you’ll be rewarded with a glimpse of the stunning monastery perched dramatically on a cliffside.
Overnight: Stay at the monastery or in nearby basic guesthouses/camps.

Day 2: Explore Phugtal Monastery:

Activity: Spend the day exploring Phugtal Monastery. Take your time to visit the main prayer hall, the meditation caves, and the stunning murals. The monastery is one of the most serene and visually striking in the Ladakh region. It offers a peaceful environment, ideal for introspection and spiritual connection.
Highlights: The unique architecture of the monastery, its setting on the cliffside, and the beautiful views of the surrounding valleys are all highlights. You may also meet with the monks, learn about their lifestyle, and if you're lucky, you could participate in some prayers or meditation sessions.
Overnight: Stay at the monastery or camp nearby.

Day- 3-Phugtal Monastery to Padum:

Distance: Approximately 20 km (3 hours of trekking)
Route: After an early breakfast, you’ll begin your trek back to Padum. This is essentially the return leg of the trek, and it will be faster because the terrain is mostly downhill or level. Enjoy the views one more time as you trek back through the valleys and villages.
Highlights: The return trek will allow you to experience the landscape in reverse, so it’s a good opportunity to take photos of areas you may have missed the first time around.
End of Trek: Arrive back in Padum in the late afternoon or early evening, where you can rest and relax after the trek.
