As Lohaghat resides on the banks of Lohawati river, tourists can also visit the temple of Rikeshwar Mahadev, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This sacred temple is located just outside the town, on the banks of the pristine Himalayan river. Besides sightseeing, Lohaghat is also suitable for trekking to the further high altitudes of Uttarakhand.

How to Reach Lohaghat
By Rail: Tanakpur railway station at a distance of 89 km from Lohagarh is the nearest railhead. Taxis and bus service is available at the railway station for Lohaghat and you can choose as per your convenience.

By Road: Lohaghat is well connected by the road route and lies on the way to Champawat which is 14 km from Lohaghat. You can choose to travel by taxis or Uttarakhand State Road Transport Corporation which serves the region.

By Air: Pantnagar Airport which is 170 km from Lohaghat is the nearest airport. Taxis can be hired from the airport for a comfortable journey.

Climate in Lohaghat
Lohaghat does witness snowfall in winters and if you plan to visit the place during winters, you need to be dressed in heavy woollens.

Light woollens or cotton clothes are advisable for summers. Though Lohaghat can be visited at any time of the year, it is best to visit the place from March to June.

Avoid visiting the place during monsoons as road blockades are common and it rains heavily during monsoons.

Things to do in Lohaghat
Lohaghat is a walker’s paradise. You can choose to trek along the river banks of Lohawati River or visit the newly constructed temple of Rikeshwar Mahadev which is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Ideally, you can choose to stroll through the marketplace which has some local eateries offering cuisine specific to the Kumauni region of Uttarakhand. Khadi bazaar is the main market in Lohaghat and offers a glimpse into urban life of the region.

Shopping
Lohaghat is a small town in Uttarakhand. The market surrounding the bus station is the major market point in the town. You can try some local cuisine at numerous eateries which line the market.
In addition, local handicraft can be purchased from shops located in Khadi bazaar in Lohaghat.

Places to visit In Lohaghat

Mayawati Ashram
Mayawati Ashram is situated amidst scenic surroundings and it attracts large number spiritualists from all over the world. Swami Vivekanand decided to shift the publication office of 'Prabuddh Bharat' from Madras to Mayawati during his visit to Almora in 1898. Mayawati Ashram is also known as Advaita Ashram.

Banasur Ka Kila
It is perched at an astounding elevation of 1,859mts above sea level. Vanasur ka Kila is located 9kms from Lohaghat of which you have to cover 7kms by bus or taxi and the rest 2km on foot. It is believed that this place was the capital of demon Vanasur, who was defeated by lord Krishna in a face to face battle.

Abbott Mounts
Situated at an elevation of 2018mts Abbott Mount offers a peaceful and picturesque environment. Abbott Mount remains covered with the sheets of snow during winters. The enchanting snow clad Himalayan peaks can be seen from Abbott Mount. It is located away from hustle bustle of the city and there are only 13 secluded cottages spread over this hill. Abbott Mount is situated in 8kms fromLohaghat offering tranquility with exquisiteness.

Meetha Reetha Sahib
62kms from Lohaghat. Guru Nanak Dev visited this place. A Sikh shrine is built here at the confluence of Ladhiya and Ratiya rivers.

Devidhuras
Located within the lohaghat Wildlife Santuary, this is the place where one can get a glimpse of 300 km panoramic view of the Himalayan Mountains such as Kedarnath, Shivling, Trishul and Nanda Devi. To reach the point, one has to walk inside the sanctuary for a kilometer and half.

Purnagiri Temple
106kms from Lohaghat. It is one of the 108 Siddh Peeths. Vanasur Fort: 7kms from Lohaghat by bus and 2kms by walk is believed to be the capital of Demon Vanasur, who was defeated by Lord Krishna, in a face to face battle.
