Over 150 bird species, including lammergeyer, blue winged minla, spotted and slaty backed forktail, rufous-bellied woodpecker, yellow throated Himalayan martens and khalij pheasant can be spotted in the region. Snow View Point and Kilbury are the most popular places for birding in Pangot. Pangot also serves as an ideal place to go on short easy treks. One of the most famous trekking trails in Pangot starts from the hill station and leads to Naina Peak via Kilbury. Treks to Namik, Pindari and Nanda Devi are also extremely popular. A lot of treks starting from Nainital either pass through Pangot or end there.

How to Reach Pangot
By Train
The nearest railway station to Pangot is located in Kathgodam, which is 50 km away from here. You can easily book train tickets from Delhi to Kathgodam, Nainital. Once at the railway station, you can opt for share taxis that may cost somewhere around INR 100 per person.

By Air
The closest airport to Pangot is at Pantnagar, which is placed around 2.5 hours drive away. This airport receives 6 scheduled flights every week and is also connected to Delhi. Once can easily book a taxi that is available at the airport, which may cost around INR 1300.

By Road
Pangot is well-connected by road to Delhi. Since AC or non AC buses are available only till Nainital, you can easily hire a taxi to go to Pangot from Delhi.

Pangot Weather

Winters(October to March): The days are nice and crisp,but the nights get cold. Great season for bird watching and mountain views.Visitors can enjoy the heavy snowfall occurs from November to February. Temperature goes minus 8 degree Celsius in winter so if you want to get chilled then go Pangot in winter. You must carry the worm clothes in summer as well because the average temperature of this place is between 10 to 25 degree Celsius.

Summers (April to June): Cool days with pleasant nights. Good time for birding.

Monsoons (July to September): Cold days and nights. Good for resident birds.

Accommodation and Food:
Stay in Pangot is little trouble because accommodation is limited here. Some budget and regular-range lodges and hotels are available, but advance book is preferred if you are planning for Pangot. Big restaurants with all type of foods are available here. Better if you enjoy the local cuisine as you will get the different taste food of Uttarakhand in these restaurants.

Attractions in Pangot
Guano Hills
If you have an interest in nature walks, Guano Hills in Pangot offer some of the best paths, covered with forests of bamboo, thick oak and deodar trees. During these leisure walks, you can partake in bird watching, spotting some rare bird species.

Snow View Point
Located at an altitude of 2270 meters above the sea level, Snow View Point in Uttarakhand is one of the most flocked tourist spot of the state. From here, enjoy the mesmerizing scenery of the snow-clad Himalayan peaks. A small beautiful temple is also placed nearby.

Nainital
Placed at an altitude of 1938 meters above the sea level, Nanital is just 15 km from Pangot. This popular hill station is blessed with scenic beauty, pleasant climate and Naini Lake, its prime tourist attraction.

Sat Tal
A group of 7 interconnected freshwater lakes, Sat Tal is located at a distance of 24 km from Pangot. Set at an altitude of 1370 meters above the sea level, Sat Tal is a cluster of lakes that is nestled in the forests of pine and oak trees. The names of the 7 lakes are Ram Tal, Purna Tal, Sita Tal, Garud Tal, Laxman Tal, Nal Damyanti Tal and Sukh Tal.

Bhim Tal
Just 24 km from Pangot, Bhim Tal is placed at an altitude of just 1375 km. A lake named Bhim Tal is its major attraction that has a small island right in its middle. This lake is known for its mythological connection that links it to the great Hindu epic of Mahabharata.

Activities in Pangot
Bird Watching: Pangot is known for the myriads species of birds that inhabit the region. More than 500 species of birds have been recorded at Pangot including Himalayan griffon, blue-winged minla, khalij peasant and lammergeyer to name a few.

Trekking: Pangot does have few trekking/hiking trails for the adventurers that take some through lush green forests over the ridge and down the valley. There is a popular trekking trail that takes one from Pangot to Naina Peak. Another one leads to Corbett National Park.
