Pauri


Diverse in topography, the district of Pauri Garhwal varies from the foothills of the Tarai of Kotdwar to the soul-lifting meadows of Dhanaulti, sprawling at an altitude of 3,000 m, which remains snowbound during the winter months. Pauri City Is situated at an elevation of 1814 m above sea-level on the northern slopes of Kandoliya hills, Pauri is the headquarter of the district Pauri Garhwal and the Garhwal Division. Pauri provides a panoramic view of the snow clad Himalayan peaks of Bander Punchh, Swarga-Rohini, Jonli, Gangotri Group, Jogin Group, Thalaiya-Sagar, Kedarnath, Kharcha Kund, Sumeru, Satopanth, Chaukhamba, Neelkanth, Ghoriparvat, Hathiparvat, Nandadevi and Trisul.

How to reach Pauri
By Air
It will be better if tourists and pilgrims come to Pauri through Jolly grant airport, situated in the capital town of Dehradun. A convenient way of transportation and even takes less time as well. Jolly grant is the closest air port to the town. The airport is around 155 kilo meter away from Pauri. Flights are easily reachable from Delhi to Pauri. The distance of 155 kilometer can be covered by hiring taxi from the airport.

By Train
Nearest railhead to reach Pauri district is located in Kotdwar. Kotdwar railway station is well connected with several cities in India. Railway is the largest mode of transportation to Pauri. Trains frequently operate to Kotdwar. Luxury buses and private taxis can be taken fro Kotdwar railway station to Pauri town. The distance between Pauri city and Kotdwar railway station is around 101 kilo meters. It is also well linked with Rishikesh too. Tourists can also reach Rishikesh from where buses and cabs are conveniently hirable to Pauri.

By Bus
Buses from most of the towns of Uttarakhand state operates to Pauri. One can catch buses fro ISBT Kashmir Gate, Delhi to Kotdwar and Pauri city. Many Uttarakhand cities are connected to Pauri. National highway number 119 also connects Pauri with most of the towns of Uttarakhand. Buses and taxis are available from Dehradun, Haridwar, Kotdwar, Mussoorie and Rishikesh.

Best Time to Visit Pauri
Summer (April - June): This is a good time to visit the hill station. The temperature is very pleasant during this time ranging from 29 to 45 degrees Celcius.

Monsoon (July - September): Moderate rainfall during can affect your plans during this time. Not an ideal time to visit Pauri.

Winter (November - March): Snowfall throughout the winters attracts a large number of tourists. The early winter months is also a good time to visit Pauri.

Local Food and Cuisine of Pauri
Pauri is a small place with very few eating out options. The place mostly houses some street food vendors near ISBT bus stand and few small restaurant and dhabbas serving mouth watering North Indian food.
Mostly meals can be taken only at the in house multi-cuisine restaurants at hotels or guest house.

Chaukhamba View Point
Chaukhamba view point is just 4 kilo meter away from Pauri district. From this view point tourists can see the wonderful Idwal valley and Chaukhamba peaks as well. This is one of the attractive tourist destinations in Pauri town. Apart from that the dense oak and rhododendron forests also attracts tourists a lot. Due to the oak and rhododendron forests the area is filled with pleasing and fresh atmosphere.

Kandoliya
Kandoliya temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva situated in the dens forest of oak and pine. The temple is placed atop of the Kandoliya hills. Just a few steps from the Kandoliya there is a beautiful park where people take rest or use as a picnic spot as well. This park is very busy in summers by the tourists. One side of the park is splendid Pauri district and other side of the park is Gangvarsyun Valley.

Nagdev
Nagdev shrine is devoted to Nag God about 5 kilo meters from Pauri bus stoppage. The Nagdev temple is surrounded by dense pine and rhodendron forests. The locals pay immense respect to nagdev temple. Tourists must take a visit to take blessings of Nagdevta. One can also see the beautifully installed observatory here. Besides the observatory, one can also see Himalayan ranges like Chaukhamba, Gangotri Group, Banderpoonch, Kedardom and Kedarnath.

Baikunth Chaturdasi
On the occasion of Baikunth Chaturdasi a fair happens annually. During this fair women take lams on their palm and wish for a baby the entire night. The moment looks so beautiful. Moreover, by covering a distance of 12 kilo meter of trekking will lead to Dudhatoli perched at a height of 3001 meters above the sea level.

Tara Kund
Tara Kund elevated at an altitude of 2200 meters above the level of the sea. This beautiful hamlet is situated amidst of the surrounded mountains. At this place tourist can find an old temple as well as a lake. Tara Kund is also very popular for its Teej festival. People in large gathered at this site during the Teej festival.

Khirsu
Covering a distance of 19 kilo meters tourists can visit Khirsu. In Khirsu one can see the wonderful snow capped peaks. Apart from that theses snow covered mountains also provides a majestic views of Central Himalaya. Such scenic beauty and snowy hills really attracts thousands of tourists every year. Moreover there is also an old temple devoted to Ghandiyal Devta. The place is very charm Calm and fresh atmosphere.
