Kinnaur
Kinnaur is about 235 kms from Shimla at an atltitude around 1899 mtrs. and is surrounded by the Tibet to the east. Kinnaur is having three high mountains ranges that is Zanskar, Greater Himalayas and Dhauladhar. This place is known for apple orchards , vineyards, snow capped peaks, cold desert mountains and lush green valleys, it is a complete nature beauty. Kinnaur is also famous for wine Anguri made by fruits and certain grains, river is also the attraction here one can enjoy rafting in Sutlej, Spiti , Baspa river.
Earlier Kannaur district was a part of Mahasu District and was known as a Chini tehsil. After Independence in 1960 it came into existence .The two rivers Spiti and Sutlej flows across the town before merging with each other. The land is situated on the ancient trade route between India and Tibet surrounded by majestic mountains Himalayan and Dhauladhar ranges. The religion of the people here is a mixture of Hinduisim and Buddhism.

By Air Jubbarhatti is the nearest Airport to Kinnaur in Shimla which is at a distance of about 267 km. Alternatively Denradun is another nearest Airport at a distance of around 154 kms. Cabs/ Taxis is available from Airport.
By Rail Kalka Railway Station is the nearest Rail head it is about 356 km from Kinnaur. Cabs/ Taxis is available from Railway Station.
By Road Kinnaur is well-connected by road with the cities like Shimla, Chandigarh, and Delhi.
Best Season to visit
Summer (April - June) The temperature in Summers ranges from 8 to 30 degrees Celsius, best time to visit.
Monsoon (July - September) It is advisable not to visit Kinnaur in the monsoon season. The chances of landslides and cloudburst are high in the region during the monsoon.
Winter (October - March) The temperature in Winters can drop as low as -5 degrees Celcius in Kinnaur. It is best to avoid travelling to Kinnaur in the Winters season.
Foods
Local foods is kinnaur is Wheat, Ogla, Phafra, barley, peas, black peas and other similar things. In Non vegetarian goat and ram's meat, sipping alcohol is common here. The world famous red apples grown here and drink a glassful of "cha", a salted tea known to refresh the soul.

Reckong Peo
Reckong Peo is situated at an altitude of about 2290 mtrs. above sea level. It is a headquater of the Kinnaur district lies in the middle of the Himalayas. This place is famous for apple orchards, surrounded with deodar and pine trees. This place is considered to be the land of Gods , not well known among tourists but is a must to visit place , from here one can easily view two great mountains one is Kailash mountain and other is Shivaling Rock.
Reckong peo was born on1st May 1960 and was known as Kinnaure earlier. The district was ruled by the Guge Kingdom of Tibet in between the 9th and 12th Century. After their rule district was divided into seven parts which is known as Sat khand. The district was then ruled by the Akbar and became the Mughal Empire part. When Mughal Empire came to an end then the name of this district to be known as Chini Tehsil.

Chandika Temple This temple is situated at a distance of around 3 km from Reckong Peo. It is devoted to Goddess Chandika , beautiful temple one must visit this temple.
Khab It is situated at a distance of around 2831 mtrs, this place is the meeting point of the River Spiti and River Sutlej, admirable place to view.
Kalpa is a small village situated at a distance of about 13 km from Reckong Peo. One can view three peaks from here that is Kinner Kailash, Jarkanden and Roldang.
Bhaba Valley It is a base for trekking to various regions which lie near the valley and famous for its green lush grass, flowers and thich forests.
Kinnaur Kailash This mountain is situated at an elevation of around 6500 mtrs. above sea level.
Chango is situated at a distance of about 123 km from Recking Peo. This place is well known for apple orchard.
Leo This is a small village situated at a distance of about 105 km from Reckong Peo. There is an ancient temple which is dedicated to the local diety Tangtashu.
Kanam This is also a small village which is famous for the Buddhist Monastery and its beauty.
Moorang is located at a distance of about 33 km away from Reckong Peo. There is an ancient fort which is said by localities to be built by the Pandavas. This is a beautiful village surrounded with Apricot orchards.
Ribba is situated at a distance of about 23 km from Reckong peo. This place is known for its orchards, Vineyards and local wine of this place is Angoori.
Pooh This place is famous for its Buddhist temple which has been dedicated to Sakyamuni/ Lord Buddha.

This is a small village known as a “Gateway of Kinnaur”located near the old Indo-Tibetian Road. As per puranas this village was known as Shonitpur, it is a beautiful place in Sutlej Valley situated at an altitude of about 2165 mtrs above sea level. Some of the nearby attraction is pheasantry, Hawa-Ghar, Bhaba Valley, Shirkhand Mahadev and Bhimakal temple.
Kothi
Kothi is also called Koshtampi, has a temple dedicated to the Goddess Chandika Devi.Local people consider the Goddess one of the most powerful Goddess.Village is surrounded with the fruit trees , Vineyards and lovely landscpaes, temples .
Namgya
Namgya is occupied with fields of barley, turnips, buckwheat, apricots, vines , with the flow of Sutlej River. It gives a amazing view.
Lippa
Lippa has old monastery dedicated to local diety Tangtashu, with three temples of Galdang Chhoikar, Dunguir and Kangyur. Taiti stream is flowing all over the place to nourish the cattles and horses.
Nichar
Nichar is situated at an altitude of about 2150 mtrs.It is one of the three administrative areas in Kinnaur district and is situated between Taranda and Wangtu on the left bank of River Satluj. The upper region of Nichar is the home to wildlife species like Ghoral, antelopes, black and red bears.
