Keylong Himachal Pradesh

Keylong is located on the Manli-Leh Highway; it is the district headquarters of the Lahaul and Spiti district in Pradesh. It is situated at an altitude of about 3080 mtrs (10,100 ft). Keylong is home to most of the government offices and facilities in Lahaul, and also hosts a regular bazaar. Keylong is a popular stopover for the Bikers, adventure travellers and tourists on the Manali-Leh route it is operational in between June-September. This little village has lots of tourist attraction points like number of gompas is available within a few hours walk. Keylong is located close to Kardang monastery, one of the largest and most important monasteries in Lahaul district, belonging to the Drupka sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Other monasteries are Shasur and Tyaul.
The annual Ladakh festival takes place every year in July with a big, busy market and a number of cultural activities. Keylong is accessible during June-Sept period only. There is a myth that pandavas in their exile spent some time in the Lahaul valley and Bheem is said to have made a passage through the hills, which is now the pass that leads to Keylong, by kicking through the hills. In the 10th century, the Guge kingdom ruled the lands and the Tibetan flavour from those days still exists in Keylong.

Nearest Airport is kullu which is about 170 kms ,and another is Leh which is about 350 kms. Bhuntar is also the nearest Airport around 71 kms from Keylong. One can hire cabs/ Taxis from Airport.

The roads route to Keylong is difficult to drive on as with mud, snow and water make the driving worsen.
