Shogi

Shogi is located in the Solan district of Himachal, and well know for temples as in every village atleast one temple is situated. It is about 13 km from Shimla anda Shogi is an excellent place for family, friends and groups to spend the weekend. This place is famous for various fruit products like pickles, juices , syrups and jellies. There is nothing much in Shogi to see but if you are bored from your daily routine then this is a heavenly place to refersh yourself. In winters you will get the good snowfall and view moreover roads also do not get blocked.
Shogi is a part of Shimla and was a part of the Anglo-Gorkha war in 19th Century. Gurkhas were defeated by the rulers in 1815 and joined british. Maharaja of Patiala was awarded by the Britishers for his services , Shogi is one of the awarded territory. In 1971 when Shimla was declared as the capital city of new formed Himachal Pradesh. Himachal government has seen the place potential for tourism and has developed this place as a tourist destination. Gurkhas and Britishers were the prominent rulers of this place.

How to Reach Us


By Air Jubbarhatti Airport in Shimla is the nearest Airport at a distance of around 33 km and other International Airport is Chandigarh which is about 102 km away from Shogi. Cabs/ Taxis are available from Airport.

By Rail Kalka is the nearest Railway station from Shogi which is about 90 km away. Cabs/ Taxis are available from Raiway station.

By Road There are frequent bus services from Delhi and Chandigarh to Shimla (7 km away) or Solan (15 km away) from Shoghi. Alternatively, you can hire a cab/taxi to travel to Shoghi.

Best Season to visit
Summer (March - June) The temperatures vary between 15 - 27 degrees Celsius. Daytime is warmbut nights is cooler so its better to carry some light warm clothes.

Monsoon (July - August) The temperature ranges to 15 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius, heavy rainfall and there are chances of landslides occurring in Shoghi.

Winter (September - February) The minimum temperature during winters (November to February) can go as low as -4 degrees Celcius with maximum never crossing 10 degrees Celcius.In December temperatures go down to as low as -1 degree Celsius. The month of January is cold, with temperatures dipping to below zero.

Mainly North Indian cuisines are available here.You can find few restaurants, local dhabas, they offer various varities like breads like naan, roomali rotis and stuffed parathans with raita to vegetables and beverages.

Attractions
Kandaghat
Kandaghat is a small town in the Tehsil district of Shimla at a distance of about 30 km . In Kandaghat you can visit to Taradevi Temple, Shiva temple, Karol Ranges and Baba Thada Mulla. In Bristish rule Kandaghat was the seat of the local Deputy Commissioner. You can visit in the month of April- June and Oct- Nov.

Tara Devi Temple
Shogi is know as a city of temples , this temple is devoted to Tibetian Buddhist Goddess Tara, one of the nine sisters of Goddess Durga. Wooden idol is placed in the temple, it is believed to be brought by the Sen Dynasty from Bengal. This temple is situated on the top of the Tara Parvat and considered to be 250 years old.

Camping
Shoghi camp is a popular spot for camping in the area. Various hotels and resorts provide this camping facility in hill station it is popular to enjoy camping.

Hanuman Temple
The temple is dedicated to Anjaneya or Lord Hanuman, it is also named as Shr Sankat Mochan Temple. Beautiful paitngs are available in this temple, many devotees come to this temple for the visit.

Shopping in Shoghi
You can buy locally made pickles, jellies and jams which is made of natural food products. There is nothing much famous market here.

Kali Temple
This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, it is situated about 8500 ft. above the sea level on the top of Jakhoo hills. This temple is 150 years old.

Bird Watching
One can enjoy bird watching experience Spot Winged Tit, Blue Magpie, Blyths Reed Warbler, Brown Fronted Woodpecker, Black Headed Jay are some of the birds that can be spotted here.
