Chail Hill Station
Chail is located about 40 km away from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh and is situated 2,250 m above sea level. It was built on the land that was allotted to the Maharaja after he assisted the British in the Anglo-Nepalese War. Chail was turned into a summer retreat because Maharaja Bhupinder Singh was banned from entering Shimla by Lord Kitchener in 1891. Most of the properties of the Maharaja have been taken over by the Indian government and some of those are being used by the State’s Tourism Department as attractions for excursionists.
Chail is not much crowded it is a small town, but if you are in search of peace then this is one of the best option where you can go. Chail is famous for its architecture and highest cricket ground in the world. Hikers frequently visit this place. How to Reach
By Air: Shimla Airport is the closest airport to Chail. It is about 66 km away and is about a two-hour journey. However, the airport isn’t very big as not many flights operate from that location. Chandigarh is also the closest major airport to Chail and is about 103 km away.Taxis/Cabs are available from Airport.By Rail: The Kalka Railway Station is the closest station and is about 77 km away from Chail. From Shimla, Chail is about 40 km away and a drive will take just over an hour.
By Road: Chail is well-connected by roadways to all major cities via the popular Kalka-Shimla route.
Best Season to visit:
Best time to visit the town is Summer. The weather can be quite cold during winter. Visitors traveling to Chail during this time are advised to wear heavy woolen clothing.

Chail Sanctuary This Sanctuary is covered in the area of around 10,000 hectares and has a countless animals like goral, sambar, barking deer, red jungle fowl, cheer, and many more. The town is surrounded by thick forests of Oak and Deodar trees all around.
Cricket Ground This is the highest cricket ground in the world in Chail. It is located at a height of around 2,144 mtrs. above the sea level and was built in 1893. This place is surrounded by thick forests which gives a picturesque view for photoshoot.
Maharaja’s Palace This is a Maharaja’s palace which is now converted into resort where visitors can enjoy the luxuries of life just like a Maharaja. It was built in 1891 and has a complex furnishings design which maharaja’s used to have.
Chail Gurudwara This Gurudwara was built after Maharaja’s palace completion. The most well-known feature of this Gurudwara is it is built in Indo-Western style with a 22-foot high wooden roof.
Sidh Baba ka Mandir This mandir was located on the ground of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. One day had a dream about the saint who said to maharaja that the place was his meditation ground,therefore Maharaja constructed a temple there and moved his palace to the place where it is today.
